Director's Statement

The year before moving to Barcelona to study film directing was filled with the excitement of pursuing my biggest passion. It felt great knowing I was getting closer to what I wanted to achieve, knowing I was doing exactly what I wanted to do. That being said, there were countless nights in which while I was writing, editing or just laying around I kept finding myself reminiscing about all the great times I had back home. The funny thing is that some of these moments become even stronger as memories that they were as reality. This became the idea that led me to Carrete.

Marc is following his dream to become a photographer and in a long night of work he starts going back to his past. Even though he’s following what he wants most there are clearly two sides of his life he wishes to collide. As I started to share the project, it became clearer to me how much people related to this idea, how universal it was.

Even the most simple and basic moment seems to be able to become a striking memory, something that surpasses what’s rational, something that surpasses what’s real. In the end, isn’t that what Cinema is all about?
